PhotoThe breeding of Andalusian Horses has been growing in the world because of their nobleness and beauty, a lot of people have been interested in purchase them to use with commercial objectives or simply because they enjoy having them.

Costa Rica is not the exception because nowadays there are many farms that breed, import and export these beautiful horses.

That way in 1961 Mr. Tomas Batalla imported his first Andalusian horses, between them we could find QUERENCIOSO from Miguel Angel Cardenas' farm, RELOJERO from Soledad Concha y Sierra's farm, CALESERA from Marques de Salvatierra's farm, and GUAPA from Jose Domecq de la Riva's farm.

In March 26th, 1980 Mr. Tomas Batalla took the decision to form a business which principal objective is the breeding for export these horses. Two years later, in 1982, was made the most larger importation from Spain to Costa Rica in only one airplane, with a total of 55 horses, with this base Ganaderia Ocho Estrellas, S.A. has formed its own nucleus of breeding, especially in the family of the mares NIZA and JACAMARA.

On November 18th, 1980, its brand was registered in "Libro de Registro de Hierros y Marcas de Ganado de la Asociacion General de Ganaderos del Reino en Madrid, España". On September 16th, 1982 was published in La Gaceta (the official newspaper of Costa Rica) the request and design of the brand in order to register it in "Registro de Marcas de Ganado de Costa Rica".

At this moment this company has an inventory of 60 animals, all of them are registered in the Stud Book1 of Spain. Between these selected horses there are three excellent stallions, PREGONERO XX, out of ATLANTICO and JARANA III, ESTEPEÑO XI, out of ATLANTICO and ESTEPEÑA III, and FANDANGO XXVI, out of DEVOTO II and FANDANGA II.

This company has made exportations to the following countries: USA, Peru, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, and Central America, so we have acquired great experience in this field.

His devotion, constancy and efficiency in this kind of business, have made that Mr. Tomas Batalla received a prize given by the Association of Mexico named "El Caballo de Oro", besides other distinctions received in Spain, USA, Guatemala and Honduras among others.

With the objective of promote this noble breed, Mr. Tomas Batalla has organized meetings in several countries, to exchange ideas with other breeders that want that the Andalusian horse continues being one of the best horses in the world. Mr. Batalla has been the President for two periods of two years each one in Federacion Internacional de Criadores de Caballos Pura Raza Española (FICCE)2, and he has been the President for several years of Asociacion Costarricense de Criadores de Caballos Pura Raza Española.



1. Jefatura de Cria Caballar in Madrid, Spain carries this book, and it contains the registered Andalusian horses from all around the world.

2. This Federation is composed by fifteen Associations from: Spain, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, France, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, USA, Switzerland, and the next to be integrated will be Canada.
